challenge
How can USAID align the views of over 120 people to create a new program for overseas aid?
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) needed help to refine a Request For Proposal (RFP) for an agency Annual Program Statement (APS). With the deadline fast approaching and over 120 people to engage in a think-tank, USAID reached out to DesignThinkers for assistance with facilitating the five-day conference.
approach
Breaking Creative Barriers In Small Groups
DesignThinkers Group designed and led the participants through a series of activities to unpack the key results and intermediate results of the new MOMENTUM program — an APS designed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in over-burdened countries. Multiple small teams were formed in each of the workshop sessions to ensure everyone had opportunities to meet and understand the capabilities of all other participants in their round.
outcome
Alignment of Understanding and Values
The result of this collaborative effort was several new partnerships formed during the workshop and a greater overall understanding of the requirements of the MOMENTUM APS. The USAID Design Team was able to identify areas of improvement needed for the final RFA as well as gain inputs to evaluation criteria for the application process.
